1978 Rolex GMT-Master Ref. 1675 MK5 ‘Pumpkin’ Patina dial with Box and Papers

$25,000.00

The Rolex GMT-Master ref, 1675 is one of the most important and enduring tool watches ever produced by Rolex. Introduced in 1959 as the successor to the bakelite-bezel 6542, it accompanied pilots, explorers, and travelers through the heart of the jet age and remained in production until 1980. Over those two decades, the 1675 quietly evolved—gilt dials gave way to matte, pointed crown guards softened, and the watch transitioned from romantic early sports watch to a no-nonsense professional instrument. By the late 1970s, the model had reached its final and most utilitarian expression: matte dials, robust cases, and fully mature functionality.

The example offered here dates to 1978 and represents the GMT-Master at its most honest and lived-in. The period-correct MK5 black matte dial is flawless, elevated by stunning pumpkin patina lume plots that are naturally matched by the original hands. A visually striking contrast. The red-back fat-font ‘Pepsi’ insert has aged gracefully, with subtle fades while retaining strong definition and original color saturation. The case remains solid and well-proportioned, with thick lugs, sharp and prominent bevels, factory brushing finishes, and only minimal signs of wear. Its acrylic crystal bears no scratches. Completing the package is its original Oyster 78360 solid-links bracelet, showing light wear if any and virtually no stretch.

Adding to its completeness and provenance, this specimen comes as a full set which includes outer box with reference sticker, inner box, wallet, translation leaflet and manual, hang tag, important recommendations leaflet and punched guarantee papers showing it was sold this watch was sold new on September 15th, 1982 by Joyería Alemana, an official Rolex retailer at Centro Comercial Rosner (also known as Roosvelt) in Valencia, Carabobo — Venezuela’s industrial heartland during the tail end of the oil boom. Its first owner, Bruno Pompetti, belonged to the large Italo-Venezuelan community that settled in Carabobo after the post-war migration wave. Four decades later, the document survives as a quiet witness to a very specific time and place. This is a late-era 1675 that wears its history openly: warm, balanced, and unmistakably authentic.
