The dial on this circa 1963 example has done something that most of its siblings have not. The black and white 24-hour surface — a composition particularly prone to darkening and degradation with age — has remained exceptionally well-preserved, its contrast intact, all printings crisp and fully present. Rather than blackening, it has shifted to a stunning overall cream hue that gives the dial a warmth entirely at odds with its utilitarian origins, transforming a cockpit instrument into something almost luminous. The tritium lume plots are fully intact, aged to a clean yellow patina. The original uniquely shaped hands have followed in graceful matching tone, as have the blued rectangular subdial hands — their original blue still visible beneath a matching tritium patina, a detail that survives on very few examples of this age. The case is exceptional — unpolished throughout, factory geometry fully preserved, broad chamfers sharp and present, normal signs of use throughout but nothing that compromises the original form. The rotating 24-hour bezel shows no colour fading, original pump pushers and UG-signed crown present. The case back is equally crisp, factory engravings deep and legible, some normal wear and tool marks present as expected. Fully serviced recently, running as new, all functions operating correctly. On a grey NATO strap.
A cockpit instrument that aged into something closer to art — and never once lost its geometry.
