1973 Rolex GMT-Master Ref. 1675 ‘Root Beer’ with MK2 matte brown ‘Nipple’ dial

$10,000.00

The Rolex GMT-Master 1675/3 marked Rolex’s bold step into two-tone territory in the early 1970s. While the steel 1675 was born for airline cockpits, the 1675/3 introduced warmth and flair — steel and yellow gold paired with rich brown dials and matching bezel inserts. Among these, the early matte “Nipple” dial variants hold a special place: transitional pieces that retain vintage tool-watch texture while embracing precious metal accents.

This 1973 example features a lovely brown matte ‘Non-Serif’ MK2 dial with applied gold “Nipple” hour markers. The tritium has aged to a deep, heavy patina that perfectly matches the original handset, creating a cohesive, caramel-toned aesthetic. The matte surface remains clean and even, with minor visible age, allowing the warm gilt accents to stand out with clarity.

The original “Root Beer” bezel insert complements the dial beautifully, its tones softened by time without losing definition. The case shows retains strong overall presence, with original prominent lug bevels and normal wear for its age.

Fitted on a handmade leather strap with matching golden buckle and fully serviced in September 2025, this Root Beer captures the early spirit of the two-tone GMT — rich, warm, and unmistakably 1970s.
